Imam-ul-Haq missed Pakistan’s first ODI against New Zealand?

Starting their three-match ODI series, Pakistan and New Zealand kicked off the first game at McLean Park on Saturday. Ahead of the series start, Pakistan experienced a setback since opening batter Imam-ul-Haq was not selected because of injury.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a statement confirming Imam’s right big toe suffered a soft tissue damage during a practice session.

“Imam-ul-Haq’s right big toe received a soft tissue injury during yesterday’s practice session, so he will not be available for the opening ODI against New Zealand. He is under medical management; so, additional updates would be given in line. The PCB said.

Recently returning to the national squad from Pakistan’s inaugural match against New Zealand, the left-handed batter replaced Fakhar Zaman, who was ruled out due to injury.

Pakistan lost the five-match T20I series 4-1, therefore beginning their New Zealand trip with a dismal start. Their sole triumph came from a remarkable batting showing by Mohammad Haris, skipper Salman Agha, and youthful hitter Hassan Nawaz, who chased down a record-breaking century to target a huge total.

Here's why Imam-ul-Haq missed Pakistan’s first ODI against New Zealand

Teams have faced one another in 119 ODIs historically. New Zealand boasts 54 triumphs whereas Pakistan has won 61 games. One match was drawn; three matches finished without a result.
