Mushfiqur Rahim set a record during the first Test match against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium. Rahim became the oldest non-opener to score a 12th Test century. He broke the mark set by Pakistan icon Younis Khan, who made a century against Sri Lanka in 2015 aged 37 years and 216 days. Rahim also became Bangladesh’s top Test run-scorer in Sri Lanka, surpassing Mohammad Ashraful.
The seasoned hitter scored 163 from 350 deliveries with determination. He also set a global record by scoring 15,502 international runs without bowling a delivery, beating former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, who had 15,461 runs across formats. The game changed following a two-hour rain delay as Sri Lanka made a late comeback on day two.
Bangladesh fell in the fourth session, finishing 484 for 9. Sri Lanka took five wickets for 61 runs in 20.4 overs, halting two big partnerships—264 runs between Shanto and Rahim and 149 between Rahim and Litton.
Mushfiqur Rahim scored 163 from 350 balls to lead Bangladesh’s opening Test total, while Najmul Hossain Shanto was removed after 148 off 279 deliveries.
Litton Das was dismissed for 90 after pushing for a century. Bangladesh collapsed after losing Jaker Ali (8), Nayeem Hasan (11), and Taijul Islam (6). Day three will feature Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana, who have yet to score.
