On Thursday, when Pakistan needed to score 174 runs in 20 overs, the pair helped their team win by putting together 101 runs. Rahul and Rohit have been the opening pair five times, and in each case, both players have scored 100 or more runs. Rizwan-Babar has had eight other partnerships that have lasted 50 years or more.
This is more than any other pair in the world. Last month, when Pakistan played England at home in a Twenty20 International (T20I), the duo put up the third-highest opening partnership ever in a winning T20I.
In the second Twenty20 International of a seven-game series, the captain and wicketkeeper-batter scored 203 runs together. This helped their team beat England by 10 wickets. As a pair, the openers have helped their teams win T20I chases by scoring 1,034 runs. Together, they have more successful chases with more than 1,000 runs than any other pair.
