SL Minister accuses top cricket administrators of corruption
Sri Lanka’s sports minister, Roshan Fernando, intensified a longstanding feud with the country’s top cricket administrators by accusing them of being “traitorous and corrupt” in a letter addressed to the International Cricket Council (ICC). The conflict, centered around corruption allegations, has pitted the minister against the national cricket board, triggering a potential suspension of Sri Lanka by the ICC. This suspension threat could strip Sri Lanka of the chance to host international competitions.
Fernando expressed concern that a few individuals driven solely by financial motives have overshadowed the spirit of the game, deeming the conduct of Sri Lankan Cricket officials as “shameless, traitorous, and unfaithful” to the nation’s cricket-loving community. Allegations of political interference by the minister have also reportedly been a focal point in the ICC’s discussions regarding a possible suspension of Sri Lanka Cricket.
