Babar Azam met with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday in Lahore, amid rumors of a change in leadership for the public team. It should be noted that Shaheen Afridi took over as T20I captain from Azam and Shan Masood in Tests a year ago.

Azam took over as captain of the public side in all configurations, ending his years-long tenure in the primary post in November following an awful World Cup campaign. The previous skipper was subjected to an attack for a long period after Pakistan failed to act in the Asia cricket Cup and carried that momentum into the World Cup, where they were eliminated before reaching the semi-finals. Azam was recently appointed white-ball chief in 2019 and Test skipper in 2020, although the Green Shirts have yet to win an ICC or Asia Cup championship under his leadership.
