Reasons for replacing Shaheen Afridi as Pakistan’s captain were “divided” among selectors. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over whether Shaheen Afridi should take over as the national team’s T20 captain, sources informed Geo News on Friday.

The TV report claims that the members of the selection committee couldn’t agree on a single rationale for Shaheen Afridi’s removal, instead citing a variety of concerns to replace the skipper. Afridi has also been “displeased” by the ongoing controversy, according to the sources, who also mentioned that the captaincy has been the topic of discussion among players who are currently attending the army fitness camp in Kakul.

The selection committee is also said to have gotten in touch with the captain of the Twenty20 team regarding the issue. Babar Azam resigned from the captaincy in all formats following Pakistan’s disappointing 2023 ODI World Cup exit, after which the PCB appointed Shaheen as the T20 captain and Shan Masood as the Test captain.
