Harbhajan Singh was surprised by the decision not to give Yuzvendra Chahal a chance and speculated that perhaps some personal issues or disagreements had affected his selection.
“Yuzvendra Chahal should have been part of the team. It’s puzzling. Either there have been personal conflicts or disagreements behind the scenes, I can’t say for sure. If we consider skill alone, his inclusion would have been justified, especially when many Team India players are resting,” Harbhajan commented on his official YouTube channel.
Harbhajan also noted that the inclusions of Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin were not part of the original plan, suggesting that the team management may be seeking an off-spinner.
“First, Washington Sundar, who wasn’t initially part of the Asia Cup squad, was added. Now, we see the inclusion of R Ashwin in this series. This indicates that Team India might be in search of off-spinners. It’s possible they’ve realized the oversight of not including an off-spinner in the team and foresee potential challenges when facing numerous left-handed batsmen. Why go through all this unnecessary hassle? It’s perplexing to me, or they might be trying to rectify an earlier mistake with another one,” he added.
