Matthew Foster, an uncapped seamer, is a member of the ODI and Test teams. In addition to Foster, the Test squad includes Craig Young, Theo van Woerkom, Barry McCarthy, and others who may make their debuts.
Ireland men’s national selector Andrew White stated, “We’ve played a lot of cricket in this part of the world over the last ten years, so the players should be familiar with the conditions—albeit mostly in white ball formats.”
“The players should enter this series with confidence and momentum following the December Zimbabwe tour, even after a 12-week break.
After a productive training camp in Spain last week, the team will travel to the United Arab Emirates five days prior to the series in order to acclimatise and prepare for the demands of the Middle East.
Since these two teams’ last three-format series in 2019, our team’s composition has undergone significant changes. Though we have a younger age profile today, the 2019 team will probably be more experienced and used to playing multi-day cricket. Take the Test Match as an example. Only five players from the 2019 starting XI are in this group.”
